Get Active
Walking requires no special equipment beyond a good pair of walking
shoes, it lowers your blood pressure, shapes and tones your legs, and best
of all you can do it anywhere for free!
Get a pedometer and walk a mile a day at a pace that
you can maintain for 30 to 60 minutes while increasing your heart rate,
that's 2,000 steps per day. You can burn approximately 100 calories
for every mile you walk. A healthy rate of weight
loss is approximately one to two pounds per week.
The hardest part is developing a habit of walking. Start out with
some slow, short sessions and build your way up gradually. Increase
your average daily steps by 500 each week till you get to 14,000 steps.
